Dear All,
Happy New Year!
As many of you will be aware from the recent news broadcasts, Teaching and Support Staff unions have raised concerns regarding the safety of reopening schools in the current climate. Following this a large number of staff have written to me following the union advice, to express health and safety concerns, whilst the new variant of Coronavirus is circulating in the community. The staff who have signed the letter have advised me that they are not prepared to come in to school, and as such I have made a decision about the school reopening this week, along with Julia Coles (Deputy Head) and Sam Baker(Chair of Governors).
This has not been an easy decision to make, as the Government has expressed the importance of special schools remaining open to all pupils, even in the event of national lockdown. This is because each one of our pupils has an EHCP which places them under the ‘vulnerable pupil’ umbrella.
However, the safety of everyone is equally important, and it is simply not possible to reopen fully tomorrow. As such, we have decided that remote learning will take place for the whole of this week, for pupils on all three sites.
Class teachers will be in contact with parents and carers in the morning (Mon 4th January) to prepare them for the remote learning tomorrow afternoon at 1pm, and from Tuesday the sessions will follow the planned schedule for remote learning previously sent out to all parents.
The Leadership Team will be meeting tomorrow morning at 9.30pm to make further plans for the week commencing 11th January, and will be in touch with you.
Best wishes,
Laura Clarke
