Admission Arrangements
If your child or young person has an EHCP, you can state a preferred school in their Plan. Your allocated Education, Health and Care (EHC) Caseworker will review and discuss this with you.
Applications for schools are completed through the EHCP process by your EHC Caseworker, you do not apply through the standard admissions process.
All reviews, school consultations and amendments to an EHCP should be completed by 15 February for any year of change. This gives enough time to resolve any issues before the end of the summer term.
If you have any questions about how to choose your preferred school, you can discuss these with your child’s current Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) or your allocated EHC Caseworker. Your EHC Caseworker will remain impartial and cannot recommend specific schools, but they can advise you on processes or support in answering any questions you may have.
If your child has an education, health and care statutory needs assessment in progress but not yet agreed you will need to complete a preference form and Apply for a primary school place | North Northamptonshire Council
If you think that your child has special needs and they are not currently attending an early years setting please contact the SEND Information Advice Support Service | North Northamptonshire Council
A member of staff will put you in contact with one of the Early Years Support Teachers who will be able to assist you.
Consultation Process
When NNC issue a draft plan, parents or carers are invited to identify a setting for the young person.
NNC must comply with that preference and name the school or college in the EHC plan unless:
- it would be unsuitable for the age, ability, aptitude or SEN of the child or young person
- the attendance of the child or young person there disrupts the efficient education of others or the efficient use of resources
NNC must consult the governing body, principal, or proprietor of the school or college concerned and carefully consider their comments before deciding whether to name it in the child or young person's EHC plan. A copy of the draft plan will be sent to the school or college to inform the consultation. The nursery, school or college should respond within 15 days.
